Format

// Product Design Internship (2015)

Format.com is a Toronto based start up that designs portfolios specifically curated for creatives (artists, designers, photographers). I had the pleasure of interning here as a product design intern in 2015 and had the opportunity to work on improving some of their older themes and collaborating with other designers on a variety of other projects. I was also fortunate enough to work on some of their marketing material for their new platform — Format Magazine as well as designing assets for their monthly newsletter in mail chimp.

Monocle Theme Improvement

Monocle is an thumbnail theme created before my tenure at Format. I was assigned with improving the design of the overall theme for a range of different screen sizes. The original theme itself wasn't fully responsive and would default to a mobile template if loaded on a smaller screen size.

Designing for a thumbnail theme like Monocle was interesting as I had to take into account what sort of combination of variables users might play around with (ie: font size, gutter size, logo size, length of text etc) and how the theme's layout would react to having it's settings changed.

I was also responsible for improving the way certain features like text posts and titles would be displayed with the theme as well as how things like the menu would react if the user had a large number of menu items or galleries. It was also important for me to play around with the actual tiles and content and see how things would change or look if users placed text posts in between their art pieces.

I was also given the opportunity to improve some of the themes interactions and animations. I did this by using the prototyping tool Principle

Small Dashboard Changes & Improvements

Was able to tinker and experiment with some minor design changes for Format's main dashboard. One of them being the drag and drop state animations.  I used after-effects for this particular mini project.

On Boarding Tutorials

Was also able to work on improving Format's onboarding feature. This modal would pop up and give new users a quick rundown on the dashboard's features.
